“We believe Andorra – where a very successful Executive Committee was organized over a decade ago – will provide an excellent location for a well-attended and diverse Congress,” said PLA leader Gallardo, in the letter addressed to the LI President Dr Juli Minoves. He continued: “Our country has had uninterrupted peace since 1278 and it is a good setting for the discussions that will hopefully lead to the 70th anniversary LI Manifesto for the 21st century that you, as president, proposed when you were first elected.”
Meeting with the LI Team, Ms Pallares informed that most preliminary work on the spot has already been undertaken. “The parliamentary group of our party is fully backing the leadership in hosting the LI Congress,” said Ms Pallares, before adding “we have the Congress venue already secured and we already had a number of talks with potential partners in Andorra and in Europe.”
Andorra is a tourist hub, particularly in the winter for skiing, and transportation is plentiful from Barcelona airport with regular express shuttles from the airport that the delegates can easily book. Alternatively, the same service exists from Toulouse airport with less frequency.
The 166th Executive Committee Meeting took place in Andorra la Vella in February 2001. LI President Dr Juli Minoves comes from PLA, and was Andorra’s long serving Minister and Ambassador.
